    I got 12v motors and

I got 12v motors and used two 3Ah NiMh battery packs normally used in electric racing cars. They are wired in series at 7.2v each for 14.4v total. Charging is very convenient and my hobby shop sells the matching connectors so everything is wired in very nicely.

I bought some slower motors whose no-load speed is around 6000 rpm and just ran them direct drive. Even with the often-maligned electric dive tank I get 45 minutes of playtime on a charge. That's longer than my attention span, but I do have two sets of batteries, at $50 a pair.

Al has some very nice gear reduction units. I also saw a guy at a Regatta who used two gear reduction units from the airplane guys. They worked well and were cheap.

I got my speed controller from Frank at Subconcepts, but you'll do well with whatever you get.

When you're doing the drive train, scrap those stuffing tubes for shaft seals. It's a lot easier to do this on initial buildup than to try to get at it once the aft hull is glued onto the WTC cap.

Check my signature for my website where I have a lot of pics up of my Robbe mods.
