    OTW type VIIc kit

    Dear all,
following a change of heart, I have decided that I should probably purchase the otw type VII kit (as the keen eyed amongst you will already have noticed).
What I want to know is more about the construction methods employed to make the kit - epoxy or polyester grp? Where does the hull come apart to allow access to the inside? How does the etched brass deck attach to the hull? How good is the fit of the grp hull components (most important). All that sort of thing. Please be honest in your appraisal, as I will soon be being honest about another vendor.....
Praise where praise is due and vice versa. As I see it, the kit looks very praiseworthy.

    Regards,

    Paul Brown.

I like what I see already - I think you have thought of an ingenious method of access to thewtc via a removable deck. Inbox is now duly cleared for the next instalment!!

            Hi Paul,

            I built the OTW

            Hi Paul,

I built the OTW Type VIIc as well... I user a slightly different approach than Jeff (Published in SCR Dec 2003), and he did an excellent job! I used the brass deck and tower. I have posted photos of U-96 on the Subcommittee web site. I had to do quite a bit of extensive fiber glass work on the hull, and re-enforced the brass deck with pieces of brass channel. My two center sections of the deck and the tower come off as one piece and are held in place by 8 machined brass counter sunk screws on U-96. The screw head slots are flush with the deck and are aligned with the deck slots. I glassed in brass threaded cabinet inserts into the lip of the hull to attack the deck. Also, I glassed in the rear torpedo section which the OTW hull design omitted. My tower is a complete brass build, not the resin tower sold as a replacement by OTW. Building the brass tower is a project of its own. OTW does include the two sides an the deck and the floor plates, but from that point forward you will do a lot of brass fabrication.

I'm over two years into this project... slow, but I'm in no hurry. My hull is finished, except for a few minor corrections. Besides, this stuff is quite expensive! I have plans for my own design of a sealed pump system and electronics for my WTC.

            Regards,

it's that time of day again - I've finished a hard day of trauma surgery and I'm looking forward to the next part of your enthraling work on the type VII from otw.

                      Thanks again,
