SUPPLYING YOUR HOBBY IS NOT OUR HOBBY
Dave,
GATO, GATO, GATO...The modern boats all look like modern cars...from a hundred feet away, they all look the same. The GATO's won the war for the U.S. in terms of destruction of merchant shipping, and have character and great god looks.
A Dolphin would be neat, but would be too small in 1/96. It would require a completely new engineered WTC.
A good Gato in 1/96 would be cool. So many possible conversion kits!
A Walrus would be beautiful. It could use the existing Blueback WTC provided it had room inside for the SubTech mixer for the X-stern.
'Han' is too little known in the west, then perhaps for that reason it would be well to produce a kit of this SSN. However, why lose investment money in something that might be seen only as an purely academic pursuit.
Sierra class would not require a new engineered WTC.
The I-19 if selected should use a WTC like a Gato.
In the glaring absense of a Victor III, which would have been the ideal best choise along with a Foxtrot, I vote for....sigh....'Sierra'.
Perhaps success in marketing of a Sierra might flush out a 1/96 Victor III. Then a Walrus sub. Good transition from Blueback to an X-stern arrangement.
What is best for this hobby right now? 1 vote = Sierra!
Have to go with the "Gato". My next sub is going to be an American - been looking at the "Lafayette" by Engel, but an American fleet boat with all the trimmings would grab me by the wallet!!
I've built the Big sister to the Han , the Type 092 "Xia" and would be really excited to see a han built. Exotic/ mysteroius boat. Sorry but the Gato simply doesn't do it for me....
