Type VII (Metcalf Mouldings) - How to....

please excuse the joke name( really just plain Paul Brown). I have a number of questions to put to the community.
1. Does anybody have any experience of the Metcalf Mouldings Type VII hull (re]http://www.metcalf-mouldings.co.uk[/url]
2. As I am a bonefide cheapscate (on a nurses salary no less!!!), I am building the WTC from 110mm dia. upvc vent pipe with seals to fit from rubber (reinforced to prevent distortion under water pressure) courtesy of messrs. Block & Quayle esq. (u.k. readers laugh simultainiously, I am sure!!!)
3. Power via 2 x nondescript 550 motors and 12v gel cell. Control via robbe f14. Channels allocated as follows]

The Darnell nee metcalf Type

The Darnell nee metcalf Type VII hull is decent value for money. It cannot be compared to the OTW/Hartshorn VII, however it is about a fifth of the price so you get what you pay for.

The hulls are well moulded, but largely undetailed. You will need to put in quite a bit of scratchbuilding to make this boat look like a bonafide Type VIIc.

Having said that, they build into a very nice model- I have seen at least three completed examples.

You will need to use seperate channels for fore an aft hydrovanes. Use an automatic trimmer (leveller) for the aft planes, and if budget allows, a depth controller for the fore planes.

Personally, I would advise against a ratchet throttle for marine use.

Also, make sure you have a failsafe fitted.
