Best place to wire in a fuse?

I’m building a Maximus Modellbau 1:72 Alfa. I’m using the brushed 540 motor that came with the kit, and a BEC that is separate from my ESC. Where in the ovarall wiring layout is the best place to wire in a fuse—immediately after the battery and before any components, OR between the ESC and the 540 motor?

Dave Martin shows immediately after the batteries in his SubDriver diagrams on his website, while Dave Merriman in one of his Cabal articles says between the ESC and the motor to allow a FailSafe device to energize the piston tank motor to blow the tank even if the fuse shuts down the motor branch of the circuit.

And should the 15A fuse be a fast-blow or a slow-blow? Or does it make any difference?

Thanks for any enlightenment you can provide.

I put the fuse immediately after the battery or I should say I use Kevin McCloud's mission switch right after the battery. It allows you to turn the sub on and off with a small magnet. I have found that when an esc shorts it takes out a lot of electronics with it. Also, modern escs will shut down temporarily with excessive current draws but shorts can fry things instantly.
