RC conversion updates? - anybody completed one?

I wanted to check with the crowd and see if anybody in the group has completed a RC Conversion for the Revell VII uboat
and ccan you share with the group what you did?

I have two here that I will start working on soon but I wanted to get a few things done first before moving ahead
on this one.. Wouldn't hurt to contact Chip(Art) first either

    hi

    i have seen a completed

    hi

i have seen a completed revell 1/72 VIIC on http://www.scaleboats.co.uk I am not sure it it dives.

I am undergoing my own conversion project - so far installed 1x robbe 380 S mini navy direck drive, tamiya TU101 ESC, sanyo 1700amh, 2x hitec HS50 servos (1 for rudder 1 for forward hydroplanes). It will be a dynamically diving submarine. So far so good, its a tight fit, and dosent leave much room for ballast compartments, and hopefully when i test its water line, it wont sink......

I have forgone the route of having two props like the one on scalemodels and gone for a single prop with one big motor- i dont know how they managed to squeeze in two motors, unless they are small ones.

do some good bits and pieces like rudders, and servos that i have used so far.

I havent decided whether to make the centre section a dry compartment, If anybody has any ideas it would be appreciated--- i did think about using a plastic drinks bottle or something to convert

OR if i should just put all the electronics into a plastic bags twice over - (much easier probably).

One concern is the forward hydroplanes that come with the kit are small - i may need to enlargen them if it does dives poorly.

]http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_smile.gif[/img] So right now I just need to lay out the rest of the gear, rudders and forward diving planes and I think this thing can be ready before our next gathering at the pool.

Recharging battery packs inside the WTC is fine....as long as you allow the WTC to vent. You don't want to allow any build-up of hydrogen in the WTC!!

                  Mark,

                  ....I think you mean that

                  Mark,

....I think you mean that you need more floatation and not more ballast? Yes?

If there is no way to reduce the weight of the boat/wtc then adding foam is your next option. And I assume you did not mean packing the foam into the wtc.....that's not going to yield any additional buoyancy.

Any idea how much all of the r/c internal parts weigh? It might be a good test to see how much foam it takes to float these parts. If the amount of foam won't fit in the hull, then I think you will have to find a way to reduce weight.

                    Thanks for the correction, yes

                    Jeff

Thanks for the correction, yes I meant to say floation to help it float, right now the bow does seem to want ot lift for the bottom but she is a heavy lady and she needs help with floating
I have cork and styrofoam in the garage to use so I'm sure I can get her to float , I'm just wondering how much it's going to take since the inside is limited.. I might just pack it as much as possible and subtract from there until I get the desired level I want and work from there. Mean while I will try and finsih my Red October sub and see how well it's going work for me.

                      Well it appears that I

Well it appears that I am very very close to getting the balance of the Uboat together, almost trimmed to where I believe it will dive with little or no problems. the water line at this moment appears to favor a still heavy rearend but it's very easy to fix at this stage of the boat's development.

Man I hope this thing is ready to sail by the time we have our next get-together!!

Anybody else done this conversion yet and has tested it out?
