Kilo - Pump Jet?

Hi guys,

I couldn't find one of those pool toy USS Dallas subs so I ordered a Trumpeter Kilo instead, (Told ya I would restart the project one day! ) yep, I'm making the sub RC. But while searching for information about the real sub I found this interesting picture of the Kilo having a pump jet propulsion system :




Ok, well this is the first time I ever saw this picture, I was wondering if by any circumstances I decide to keep the sub a static display sub, this might be an interesting modification. Does any one know about this pump jet fitting?

Perhaps you Russian sub experts can help me out?

This was a "one off"

This was a "one off" conversion of a Kilo based in the Black Sea fleet in the Ukraine. My Russian submariner friend tells me this particular boat has been dismantled.
I belive this is a post-swirl design,rather than the pre-swirl used by the United States.
It is an interesting design. I have,and still do (like now) would like to hear from anybody that has information about Russian pumpjets or any other pictures of this ,or any other, Russian pumpjet.
I have also noted there are drawings of the 955 Borely class with a pumpjet.
Anybody got anything,please share it with me.

Hi Wayne, You don't happen to know, or have any photos of were the intake flood grates are in the Kilo's? Would they be similer to the ones on the Akula. Dave.

The Report coming out in

The Report coming out in a week or so will have some "pretty good" Akula photos. I have not pursued details on the Kilo yet.
I have been focused on the Alfa, Akula, Beluga, and Typhoon.
I have become interested lately in the Delta IV.This is the Backbone of the russian fleet and will be for the next few years.
The Servrodvinsk class and Borley class (855 and 995) are interesting.But, since they have not even rolled out of the barn yet,it is hard to get much on these boats.
I have found a drawing of the Borley with a pumpjet on it. Interesting.....
Still hopeing someone will come forward and e-mail me something new on the Russian pumpjets.

Many of the russian submarines have common characteristics. So far the flood grates themselves have appeared,for the most part, the same across the classes.
There are a few exceptions for "special" purpose functions. The grates themselves are very simple. Most have a single vertical and horizontal bar going across the square hole.
