Radio Shack Mako mini-sub - another small rc submarine

Hi,
I have this 9" long rc mini-sub I bought from Radio Shack. I'm curious if anyone here has attempted to modify this twin motor mini-sub. It's a dynamic diving "dry hull" type, 6 volts with a forward LED search lamp. The twin motors are syncronized to angle up or down via another motor inside the hull. I'd be happy to hear from anyone who has done so already.

No big mods yet but I have Ideas...and before I forget, i had to replace that big LED, RS sells that same LED! hahahhaha!

Just as I thought, had the same experience as you mentioned above. The leak I had was comming from the bow gasket rubber seals. I also applied a blue colored "marine grease" to the sub's prop shaft when I noticed small bubbles comming out of it during one of it's test dive at only 3 ft!. I don't know why they placed a Red LED there as a searchlight, it's rather useless.
I'm still looking for a Jumbo Blue LED to replace it. Have'nt found any at Radioshack.
I'm trying to figure out how to re-wire this sub to have a reverse.
I'don't know if it's similar to the NIKKO twin motor mini sub. Any ideas?
Ive also done some testing with this sub using joystick control
It works, but I still no reverse.
The range I got for this sub using the stock controller is about 15ft. With the joystick controller (from those ocean explorere mini subs) the range is about 50 ft.

Still undecided if it's a good idea to increase the sub's power supply to 7.2 volts. I'm seriously thinking about it because I'm planning to add more JUMBO LED seach lamps on this sub OR attach one of those micro key chain mag lights to the sub to add underwater illumination.

I bought the 20 dollar

I bought the 20 dollar sub from walmart. I cant seem to get it weighted right. I guess you really get what you pay for... (or I'm not willing to put the effort into a "toy" like this lol)

If you have pesky brother(s)

If you have pesky brother(s) or friend(s ) just itching to try out your more expensive subs (& you're not comfortable with it) have them play with the $20 sub from walmart. It's a cheap solution to that dilema.
