    Basic Sub Questions

Not being a sub person, I will have many questions that will be old hat to most of you but I ask for your indulgence. What is the approx up/down angle of the dive planes? On another post someone suggested not using the plastic rudders and dive planes. I intended to use them and modify them with wire pivots at the outer ends (dive planes) and brass tube for the other pivots. Comments please.

        Cadman,

        The basic rule of thumb

        Cadman,

The basic rule of thumb is to allow up to 30-35 degrees of deflection in either direction of 'neutral'.

It doesn't really matter what kind of sub it is, it's more of a hydrodynamics issue. If the plane is moved beyond the 30 or so degrees it begins to act more like a brake.

uboat.net - always a good place to get information on the real U-boats!

(but I'd stick to here for the r/c types! )
