Antenna orientation on a surface ship model

I just recently purchased a Futaba 2.4 GHz radio for a surface battleship model for my grandson. The antenna is only about 10 inches long.....way different from 25 MHz. The antenna will be enclosed within the superstructure or hull of the model. Does it matter whether the antenna is vertical or horizontal for a surface model? Thanks in advance,

Something to remember, the length of the antenna is void of signal.
Pointing the tip of the antenna at your Rx may not connect properly.

If your Rx antenna is blow the water line, you may loss signal.
If you can find a spot inside the superstructure to stand the antenna would be best.
There are other factors like the material between t he Rx antenna and the Tx antenna.

Ralph, thanks very much for the pimer on antenna placement. As I intuitively suspected, it looks like a vertical antenna placement will probably be the best. The 2.4 GHz setup is actually, in my opinion, more of a pain than the older 75 MHz antennas. Again, thanks for the quick information.
