    As I get farther in

As I get farther in I have other options since I have about 4,four channel radios....I was just trying to keep thru hull openings to a minimum.

I have one two channel that I was thinking about sealing in permanently and charging the battery using two through hull brass pins.

This was done years ago on a small (18') fleet sub that was quite successful.

      You know the idea about

You know the idea about tying the motors to the dive planes leads right to the idea of tying a ballast system to the planes. At the extremes of travel, it runs your pump/tank/gas valve, whether the motor is engaged or not. You're still three channels. Run the motor constantly on and you're at two. Get really tricky and have the motor only stop when the rudder is just a little off from center. That way you release the stick, push the trim tab left a bit, and she dies. Then you're still at two channels, with a diving system. Obviously you sacrifice any kind of proportional throttle, but it really gets me thinking it could be done, and maybe even sealed up as you say.

        hey guys,
        Thanks for posting

        hey guys,
Thanks for posting your ideas about this kit. I just picked up 2 at my favorite hobby shop. One had my name on it, the other I grabbed off the shelf. Still have one on order from internethobbies.com, that said it would ship in 2-3 days, then found out, they had none in stock. Anyway, after a quick look inside the box, to my relief, no broken pieces. This is one well detailed kit. Can't wait to start. Am going to build with R/C in mind from the start. SubRon6 guys, See you in Carmel June 5th, sorry, but my e-mail is still off line,,,, Jeff J

            Thanks...

            The german conversion is nice

            Thanks...

The german conversion is nice but spendy...I don't know the value of a euro but it looks like the WTC is 55....the motor about 42 and the ballast system 249.

            Omar
            Today's conversion rate is 1 euro = USD $1.14

So the WTC kit is ~ $62.70, the motor assembly is ~ $48.45, and the ballast system ~ $283.86, all in USD.

I may buy the WTC kit and motor assembly. They are CNC-milled, and look much better than I'd be able to make myself (I don't have a mill). Note that the WTC kit also includes the "rudder levers" (direct translation), or the rudder and I think stern plane link assembly pieces (minus the linkage rods themselves it appears).

The ballast system uses a peristolic pump, but is a bit steep for me. Guess I'll have to try and make my own.

              I guess women are not

I guess women are not the only ones that can change their mind.....

Looked at the hull last night, found a 2 shaft gear box in my stash spaced just about right.

Going to place the shafts in the scale location and drive both screws. The motor will run in the wet but be easily accessible for maintenance and a couple of wires going to the radio are easier to seal than one or two shafts.

                    Run noisy, run deep!

Wasted the weekend building up a gear box for two shafts and contra rotation.
It was smooth and quiet on the bench.....got it in the sub and it sounded like @#$%%#$.

Back to plan A Single shaft direct drive on the centerline.

Tried the original props also...too flimsy and too small for good results going with a Graupner two or three blade.

Subs are a learining and humbling experience.

I used delrin gears and bushings...

Like most plastic hulls every little thing is amplified and also the single shaft and direct drive will lead to more power, less noise and friction and simplicity or repair and maintenance.

When the sub is on display I will remove the central drive prop and stick in the two scale props and it will hardly be noticable.
