    Magnet question

I've hooked up a KMC magnetic switch. I want to turn the sub on and off without opening the WTC. How powerful of a magnet do I need?

    Thx

Farlan, that is a tough question. You do not have a hobby shop or a Michaels or an Ace anywhere near by? If you did you could take your WTC and play. I use one that is a rare earth type with the dimensions of .5" round and .25" thick. Works on the Walrus. I have one I can give you, but I may not be able to make the next meet (Scheduling conflicts).
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

I find that a rare earth magnet of 1/4" diameter by 1/4" height will turn it on and off from a distance of between 1" and 1.5".

Go to the refrigerator and borrow one of the magnets off the door and give it a try.

It doesn't take much of a magnet, you just hold it in place for a second to operate the switch. I use an extendable magnetic parts grabber, you can find them most anywhere. I just glue the switch to the top of the wtc and can usually operate the magnetic switch from on top of the subs deck.
