Hello Gentlemen,
In 1994 I eagerly picked up a Engel U177 kit from my local model shop, at the time I was building and flying sport scale aircraft as well as the odd pylon racer but after being given a copy of Buchheims U boat war I got itchy to build a U boat.
I remember spending a few nights with the dremel opening out the drain holes, when suddenly my home life was changed for the worse due to a family conflict, all hobby items, half built projects etc had to be either abandoned or kindly stored by by sister (I now live in another country). Last year my sister died and my brother in law reminded me that there was 6 foot long box in his garage. Well it cost me 220 euros in shipping to get it over to me but , I remember I paid 450 pounds for it in 94 and the retail it 1400 euros now so still not a bad deal and now it sits in my garage.
I have not built a model in all these years and I am somewhat daunted by the task that lies ahead, I recently joined Subcommittee and have been reading many articles, however I have not found anyone that has written their experiences of building the 177.
I will not be starting the build for some time as I first have to build a warm model room out in the garage to house the build. I have however thought to begin collecting fittings and finish components for the model but have not found anything in the scale of 1/45, I found a a few items in 1/48 which will be close enough, but again not too much to choose from. Has anyone a good source for fittings for the type IX and /or a build journal?
I hope to have this kit assembled and afloat for its 25th anniversery.
Best regards
Andrew
