I recently bought a Tenergy battery charger and a NIMH battery. The manufacterer recommends to charge it at 1.0 amps. But it takes FOREVER!!!!!!!!! Any suggestions if it would be safe to up the amps to speed up the charge?????
The recommendation to charge Nimh is :
- never charge at a current higher than what the manufacturer recommends but :
- always slow charge them at 1/10C for 13 to 15h
If you fast charge Nimh you'll kill them in a very short time.
Subdude, how many cycles did you manage to do with such high currents ? I can't believe they had a long life and if so, I want to know the brand of your batteries :-)
Nimh can take high charge currents. Yes, they get hot. I have an MRC automatic charger that charges a 4600 mah 7,2v pack in about a half hour or less. The charger is about 12 years old and I have packs that go back that far. Try picking up a AA Nimh battery after charging it in a standard charger. It will burn your hand.
....sounds like you may be thinking of the Lithium-air battery that looks quite promising with upwards of 10 times the energy density of today's LiPo's. Last I read, there were still a number of problems to be worked out before we see a viable, commercially available battery of this chemistry type.
