After over a decade of forum membership, here begins my first build thread.. As no surprise to anyone who knows of me on here, the subject matter of this build, is the late war German coastal boat, the Type XXIII.. And no, you are not seeing double.. This is a build of not one, but TWO boats! Double the fun! Double the pain! Double the pleasure! Double everything!
I first obtained these Bronco models four years ago from Caswell. Got the resin fittings for them two years ago from Merriman. Finally got a “real” table to perform the work on this weekend. I seem to progress in two year intervals..
Mini-Review of the work table:
I really hope the build up of the models is easier than the assembly of the Husky table that was delivered this morning. The mounting holes in the legs and upper crossbar were not even remotely aligned.. After what seemed like hours of rotary tool fun, I finally got the thing assembled. I destroyed one rotary bit in the process, the hard steel of the table legs ate it for breakfast. Had to enlarge 12 mounting holes with my rotary tool! Twelve holes on a new table that came right out of the box.. I did see some online reviews stating that once you get this table assembled you will strip out the screws in the process. Now I know why. Thanks to my trusty rotary tool, my screws are strip free! The assembly of the table was a nightmare, but once done, it has turned out to be a nice table thus far.. I had to make it work, as it was a craigslist purchase. Couldn't find it anywhere else, and no more of these to be found at Home Depot, where they were once sold. I wanted the adjustable height, castor wheels, and the long but narrow top (62" x 24") so it takes up minimal space in the garage.
The table from Hell:

Here are some photos of my Twin Silent Sisters in waiting:

The wood stand, with the UBoat Badge on it, is for my 32P XXIII, a third sister in waiting..
As Big Dave would say, more to come.. Hopefully..
