Off the top of my head it was a surface running sub. There was a lot of discussion and excitement when it came out, but that quickly fizzled when it was discovered it does not dive.

One of our local monthly fun run members has one. It is a good representation of a Type VIIC in 1/48th scale. Doesn't take too much forward speed to get it to dive. (Yes, it's a dynamic diver)
