Off the top of my head it was a surface running sub. There was a lot of discussion and excitement when it came out, but that quickly fizzled when it was discovered it does not dive.If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

One of our local monthly fun run members has one. It is a good representation of a Type VIIC in 1/48th scale. Doesn't take too much forward speed to get it to dive. (Yes, it's a dynamic diver)
