It is a very simple and straightforward system to use, Dave...a quick puff of gas will fire a torpedo...ooh, three or feet or so, whereas a full blown refill (gas leaking on your fingers, etc) will fire one...well, I dread to think, but I achieved the width of my lounge, the length of my hallway, and the width of my loo and it still hit the wall with a fair whack! (my good lady was out during my testing...)
Ron managed to blow a hole through the end of his bath a few years back whilst testing an earlier version of these...his good lady wife was not best impressed, to say the least!

The filler valve stays attached to the torpedo body, Dave...you simply insert your chosen gas bottle valve into the resin filler valve, fill with gas as required, then pop it out again. Job done...

Hi Richard
I had said after firing, not after filling.
Once the torpedo has fired off the valve assembly how do you remove the assembly from the tube?
Is that what the access door is for?
So you can release a latch so it can slide out the front. BD

I'll not go into the expense in case the good lady reads this...suffice it to say that three and half grand isn't far off what it's cost me to get the boat operational. It was built once from the box...rebuilt again with various modifications...then totally refitted by Ron.
There's also three lots of carriage charges to be added on, plus a respray, decals, periscope kit, and the prop, and all those little extra bits and pieces that can (and did) very quickly add up and increase the costs.
Jeff...Andy is right, Ron did do the work at a 'special' rate...I built (and maintain) his website for him, so he worked out a lower overall price on the work done for me.
As far my researches go, there are plenty of sail emblems on the Akulas. I have drawn them all (except the bow emblems). So I can organized decals for them.
In case of the sail emblem of "Volk" and the small of "Leopard" the pics I found are not very usefull for identification of any details.
The red star which offers the Engel-Kit is pure fantasy.
The following list depics my research results (and so far drawn emblems) in pics of sail emblems, bow emblems and hull numbers.
K-284 "Akula": -
K-263 "Delfin": -
K-322 "Kashalot": -
K-480 "Ak Bars": 1 small sail emblem (side), 3 price stars, 2 types of bow emblem
K-391 "Bratsk": 1 big sail emblem (front), hull number
