To build, or not to build. THAT is the question......

So as you may know I snatched up an unbuilt 32nd Parallel Ohio kit.

    "Big sonofabitch"

Many of you also know that the boat is not at all accurate.

So here I stand, with two possible paths in front of me.

Path 1: build it like it is. Don't go nutty re-scribing and such to make it look perfect. (My honest opinion is if I wanted an accurate Ohio, I'd buy Pete's).

    Path 2: re-scribe, re-contour, re-build until it IS accurate

You can gauge what my opinion is.

    I'm interested in yours.

In the water nobody would know the difference.
Out of the water very few would know the difference.
    Except Bill L.
I would build it the best you can by adding easy upgrades where you don't have to change the basic Hull.
    Then enjoy it.
To me a nice running boat beats a scale bad running boat any day.
It's what makes you happy my friend.
Make sure you post the build. BD

You bought a 32nd Parallel boat.
        Build a 32nd Parallel boat.

Those of us who build submarines, will know exactly what you have and what you did.

Those who are not in to submarines will never know and will not care at all.
They just see what you have and how it runs.

If you want a completely accurate boat, then look for a hull that is accurate and built that...after the 32nd Parallel boat.
If you start modifying this boat, you will put a lot of time and effort in to it may not get what you want.

I have looked at fully scribed nuke boats.
Looks nice but once in the water at about 5 feet out, all of the goes away.

I have also seen a boat that had all the detail but it was not scribed.
It had been taped off and all the details where painted on.
        It looked great.
I thought that was a very good idea.
        Lot of taping.

          Yes.
That is why I said if you are happy.
Submarines are a mystery with most people.
As long as it looks like one.
I was watching the Hell Below series the other day. If I remember right they kept talking about a Type 7 and kept showing a Type 9.
I mean WTH. Still a good series. BD

              Erich,
What on earth were you thinking? LOL
Very cool sub and subject matter. I cannot tell you what you should do. If it will always bug you that you should have done _________(insert critique) then do it so you will enjoy it. The 15' rule does apply when it is in the water (like mentioned before out beyond 15' no one sees the details), but the close scrutiny is when it is on the table. Will it bug you if it is not perfect?
If it was me, it is a balancing act. On my Type 23 I went a little detail crazy in the Turm. It was fun, it was a change, it looked cool. I am sure the trout like looking at it in the bottom of the lake. Will I do that detail again, maybe. I have a Walrus that is being worked on. I am not going to go crazy......I do not think. I want it to get in the water - it has a nice presence to it.
The Ohio is one big BEAST. It will be impressive whether it is out in the water or on the table for display. Whether you have every detail possible or built Out Of Box.
I just look forward to seeing what you do with it!
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

There is no doubt that detailed correctly or not, she has a presence on the water.

I think I'm going to build it as it was originally meant to be done, in the 32p style. the only changes will be the addition of the correct amount of cleats and hopefully a better prop. I have a 1/96 DSRV that i might throw on for looks once in a while (pete was selling them several years ago at Carmel)

Wednesday can't get here soon enough!

The Walrus is one fine looking sub.
