    50 MHz versus 75 MHz

    Is there any difference in underwater performance?
    I would think that 50 MHz being longer wavelength might offer better depth penetration.

    A 50MHz signal would provide slightly better penetration for the reason you noted. I've used both 50MHz and 75MHz....and would have difficulty stating that there is any real observed difference in actual practice. We tend to lose visual sight of the sub before there is a loss of signal.

      I think the most important difference would be that at a regatta, you would have much less competition for an open channel, as most people are on 75.

      Also, you need to be a HAM Technician or higher to use it legally.
