Winds of War RC Model Sub

Years ago I saw a working 8-foot long RC Sub from the mini-series "The Winds of War" in San Antonio Hobbies, Mountain View, CA. It was very well detailed with rivets and plenty of rust stains down the sides of the hull. I'm kicking myself everytime I think about not buying it!
    Anyone ever run across it?
The series starred Robert Mitchum and ran in 1983.

I did a little searching, but couldn't find any images of the sub in question related to the series.

Any idea what type of sub it was? american WW2 post war any ideas? My though would be to determine that part, find a kit for that sub, and then just build it. If that's not your speed, there are tons of scale non-rc-able models if you just want a display piece.

      I looked in to it.
Here is a miniature from the tv series of the battleship.

And then there is this about the submarine S-45 with photo of the real boat.
I have not found a movie model of it.

Those are some amazing replicas in the icollector links. Probably the best way to figure out which sub was in the mini series is to get a copy of the DVD?

Yes, I remember seeing the sub on display at San Antonio Hobbies back in the early 90's it was huge. Unfortunately I have never taken any pictures of it when it was there. Than one day it was gone, Sold.

Wasn't that a custom build for the movie by 3nd Parallel?

The "battleship" on icollector is an IJN Destroyer.

I think it was the smaller of the filming miniatures. IIRC there was a truly huge version built as well that was featured in a multi-part article in Scale Ship Modeler.

I was at 32nd Parallel a long time ago and that beast was there in the shop. It had to be close to 20 feet long.

I recall reading 24-26 feet long. Didn't it wind up at the Mare Island museum for a time?
