    lipo low voltage cutoff?

So for those of you out there running with lipo batteries, What are you using for a low voltage cutoff and how do you like it?

There are small circuits around that shut off at the minimum LiPo voltage to protect the battery. They are used between the battery and the loads.

Check the RC airplane community for this. There is a lot of experience there.

But be careful; without a backup battery your boat would be dead when such a device is shutting off !

    Cheers

Thanks, I know there are several types out there. Some are soft cut offs and some just sound alarms and or LEDs. I'm just looking to see what others are using

Kevin McLeod should jump in, he manufactures two types for LiPo p toe toon, one that offers programmable fail safes, specifically for subs, and another that offers a singular fail safe.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

          Jump!

Sounds like you're referring to a device like my "Battery and Link Monitor" (or BLM).

BLM monitors the voltage on your battery and will blow your ballast tank dry once you reach the low-voltage cutoff level. It won't leave you stranded anywhere, but it will prevent you from flooding the tank again; Forced to the surface there's no mistaking that it's time to come home for a recharge. It currently supports 2S/3S LiPo, 5 cell to 8 cell NiCd/NiMh, and 6V/12V Lead Acid battery types. I have room to add more if there's a need in the future.

Battery charge level is always visible on the 4-LED display, as is a running count of the number of missing frames that have occurred in the current run. (I've learned a lot about good radio-bay placement because of that.)

Finally, as Tom mentioned it also acts as a fully programmable multi-stage failsafe device.

BLMs can be ordered from me or through the SubDriver website. Please PM me if you've got any questions about it.
