    1/96 USS Nautilus

It has always been a dream of mine to get this boat in this scale. Problem is there hasn't been one for a long time and the one guy I know that has one has turned down my continuous offers for the last 10yrs.
Always have a back up plan. Thor and I actually started this project about 6-7 yrs ago. I made trips to the museum, arranged visits to the 571 vault, and had sailors onboard assist me with drawings. I was able to get drawing for the deck replacement plans, pipe tabs, the works. Together we collected every drawing(even the bad ones), picture, sea story and hand measurement we could get our hands on. Then Thor took months drawing it up in cad. It even took him back to school to relearn calculus to ensure the tangent lines were correct( something all the other drawings had wrong). Was it neccissary? Probably not. I doubt anyone would ever be able to tell it was wrong since no one even knew it was. Did he do it anyway, hell yes.

Once the dwg was done Thor put a blank together and cnc a master plug to make intermediate molds. The master was cut and prepped and finished ready to mold. But life happens and it got put on the back burner and the master sat to long and warped. That's were the story ended.

Originally I started to set up my own cnc to restart the process but it's messy and a huge pita. So that was abandoned.

I now begin the process of cutting the original file into 9 separate section to print in abs on my 3D printer.
By using a high melt plastic I am hoping to provide Thor with a more dimensionally stable master for molding. I will also print it at my max resolution of .1 to reduce prep times. This also means it will take a long time to print. Once a new master is printed and shipped I will begin phase 2.

I will over haul the entire model to make it print ready for rc. No more boring holes for shaft, cutting holes for flood vents, or installing alignment tabs.

Thus begins the ending of this story.

I'm not gonna make this one as fast as my old build were but, there will be steady progress.
