    Mini rowing canoe

    OK
It's not a submarine but it may end up being one if it is too heavy when done.
I am experimenting with a cool gizmo called a Rowbot.
It mixes 4 servos and allows them to actually row a model boat.
I wanted to get it in the water fast so I purchased a canoe on eBay ready to float.
I thought it would be bigger than its quoted 10" but had not thought it through well as it is small.
    Very small.
But always being up for a engineering challenge I decided to give it a try.
I had to use micro servos and I have the oars working but still have to get the Rowbot, a RX, and battery to fit.
It is the 10 pounds of s**t in a 5 pound bag sinario again.
But I am used to that with years of working on subs.
Here is a video of the oars working.

    BD,

You could use that mechanism to create a working model of Drebbel's submarine....though there is some doubt as to whether his boat really submerged it was definitely driven by oars.

...you have to tell it to BD twice....once for each ear.

Make the oar blades a little bigger, so the canoe can tow the raft with the battery pack and receiver behind it!

Dave ordered several of the RowBots, I got one from him, and am building a (larger) rowboat for it - Dave's is definitely farther along.

I'm waiting for the video with one of his high speed subs leaping over the canoe...

I think it could work Jeff.
The oars would have to be one way type. So they collapse on the back stroke.
And engage on the power stroke.
Pita did mention this the other day.
I heard him, I just usually ignor him. BD

you would need to put a linkage on the oar to rotate the oar blade to flat when it's on the return stroke .

                  No
I would use one way blades.
They fold up going one way and open the other way.
                  Much easier to do.
It would be a forward only sub.
But as the Daytona driver said in the Gumball Rally.

Should be able to get some ideas from these.

There are a bunch of videos on how different mechanics are used to make rowers.

I have the canoe working and it floats but it is two top heavy and narrow to stay upright.
                        Wants to turn turtle.
It has been suggested I add outriggers to keep it upright.
I was thinking like they do with the dugout type canoes.
It's only a test for me but I would like to get some footage of the canoe paddling along.

What about adding a fin keel underneath?

Sadly it would be too heavy with that much extra weight. BD
