Moebius 1/128 scale Seaview -new owner

I used my Christmas money to buy a Seaview that came up for sale.
This is really exciting to me. Already thinking how I am going to make it mine (like add lights). JeffP, it will not be as great as yours, but I look forward to learning from you and running together.

I got to get back to the Type 9 and not get side tracked.
    Peace,

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Welcome to the NIMR, Tom! I'll look forward to trading paint with you too! And don't give my boat too many accolades, my friend. I bet you get yours running better than mine in no time!

      Best,
      JeffP

JeffP, Thank you for the welcome. At the risk of being ejected out of the NIMR, i had to look up what NIMR meant. Nelson Institute Marine Research. There is much I have to learn, especially the differences of the sub through the seasons and movie. As far as running better than yours? I do not know, I do know I am going to get this running soon. Looking at how to add lights or if it is possible to retro fit them to this sub. I find myself being pulled to this sub and wanting to work on it right away. As I understand it, this sub has a unique handling and the bow wants to cause it to nose down, is this what you are finding? How are you overcoming this?
Also on a personal note, you rock! Sam says thank you so much.

          Hey Jeff
When you were younger did you have one of the Aurora kits and take it into the pool with you.
Push it around and think it was so cool?
Not saying I did that mind you. BD

No kid in their right mind would do such a thing. The very idea!

As a kid living in AZ, we would drive out in the boonies to gold pan or ghost town hunting. I had a Spindrift model that I would bring along as well as snorkel gear. The streams we ran into usually had gin clear waters and I would play with the "sub" and allow it to settle down the bottom of a 2'-3' pool. It would "fly" and look so realistic. Never got tired of doing that over and over again. Judging one flight more realistic over another.

Not to change the subject but I paned for gold once.
                Around 1980 in NV.
My aunt lived about 60 miles south of Reno near the CA border.
We went up in the mountains and paned.
It was very cool. We found gold. I still have it someplace.
Now back to you regularly scheduled program. BD

Sorry, folks, been away from the forum for a while. Still recovering from an illness, plus other nuisance lifestuff.

ANYWAY, yes, of course, as a tyke I pushed one of those old Aurora kits around various waters as I recall. And Salmon, Sam is more than welcome. I'll want to see a photo at some point—or perhaps in person later this year!

Yes, Seaview wants to nose down, but I am still fighting her, trying to learn. The real experts have been running their Seaviews far longer and more successfully than I have (BD, Steve Neill, Lance Ellingson, The Man Who Would Not Be Named, others), so you might want to check in with them for better advice. The best of my limited success so far has come when considering her more of a dynamic diver than a static one: flood her down to decks awash then apply just enough juice to let that sloping nose do its stuff and take her down, backing off the power when I want her to come up. Had a few decent—if brief—runs in SanFran, but my most controlled dives were in buddy Neil Schmidt's lap pool!

Hope you are doing better Jeff. That lifestuff sure can be a nuisance can't it.

I still have mine with a BigDave awesome cylinder. It works like a clock still. No leaks and keeps level better thatn the big ones I built. Love this sub it's a keeper.

Jeff that explains it. Wow didn't know. Glad to hear you are on the mend! Let's go boating soon when you feel better. Mary and I now own a motor home so we can go anywhere now with subs. It's time for another get together.

                        All the best!

Many thanks, BD. Yes, it certainly can!

Speaking of Seaviews, my demanding girl now requires more light reworking (just the under-manta ones, fortunately), a new antenna and some tweaking. And it's about time I get to it. I expect SubRonLA will be holding our annual spring Fun Run in Anaheim again before too long. Would really like a better performance this year than last year's embarrassment! Salmon, any chance of joining us again? Let's talk potential dates soon. E-mail me...

Fun Run in LA may be the only ones I can attend!

I have received the electronics I plan to use in this sub. I may be short an RX......

                              Steve,

For some reason your posts didn't appear here when I last checked in (above). Glad to hear you're so mobile! Yes, we'll get together soon because it's almost once again time for our annual Spring Fling in Anaheim's Yorba Park. March or April, I expect. Will get something posted on the SubRon chapters section soon. Looking forward to seeing you again (may we both have more successful runs this time!), and it sounds like Tom will be joining us!
