      Nice Jim
I have not seen one of those in years.
Andy would know but I think Ron Perrot used to sell it or a similar kit back in the stone ages.
Let us know how it works. BD

That is a model originally kitted by HFM in the mid '80's. No connection with Ron Perrott, he did a vac-formed model called Aquabat, which is rather different in design.

The idea of the model was to act as a crossover for modelmakers who maybe were interested in RC cars and had a two channel radio and a set of 7.2v sub-c nicads. The watertight box wasn't the greatest in the world, and the motor shaft relies on grease packing for watertight integrity.

As such they work okay as standard if you restrict depth to a couple of feet or so. If you want to go deep, I suggest retrofitting the boat with a better watertight box or better still a small cylinder and a proper glanded shaft for the motor. The hull design is very hydrodynamic and works well, so they're a fun to pilot boat. Three channel's or more would be sensible these days. Independent control of the front vanes would enable rolls or banking style turns which would definitely spice sailing sessions up. Brushless and lithium power would increase performance and improve sailing times.

I've actually got one of these sitting on the shelf. I knew it needed upgrades and I'm looking forward to getting a chance to play with it one day. A brushless motor and extreme speed would be awesome if combined with separate front planes for rolls and banking!
