It looks nice on the water.
I picked up the Arizona kit. Very nice.
The Iowa class and the flat top are nice kits as well. BD

I was able to watch Erich run his Bismarck during our FunRun last Sunday. She looks very, very nice running across the water!

The Trumpeter 1/200 models are very nice....a good handy size that build into very handsome models. Another way to get into surface models are the 1/144 models from Strike Models. They were intended for model combat with BB guns, but if you're like me, I don't get much satisfaction from the notion of building and sinking R/C models (DUH....submarines excepted). The Strike models come with fiberglass hulls, wood decks, and very well done cast turrets, as well as some other fittings. The models serve as a great starting point for building a really good scale model in about the 4-5 foot range. Several years ago I built a U.S.S. California (BB 44) from a Strike kit. After a large amount of work in terms of detailing to scale model levels, the model has turned into a beautiful surface running model.
The Strike models are inexpensive, well built, and in general provide a very reasonable way to build your favorite surface ship without breaking the bank.
