Whoops! Sorry. This totally slipped my mind.

I did successfully run off a copy of the torpedo body on my home printer. Quality was still good, though not as good as Shapeway's (hundreds of thousands of dollars) printer, obviously. It took about 2.5hrs altogether, so realistically the cost of $20 from Shapeways is pretty reasonable. I won't be running off any copies at home for anything less than that, certainly.

I am actually hoping to do one better. I am talking with Mike Caswell and Dave Merriman about putting together a professional kit of these weapons for sale through sub – driver.com. I think that solution will render a superior product with support from a good company. I know they are working on it hard right now. I couldn't guess at a timeline, but I couldn't see it being too long.

That`s some interesting news BUT my only problem is that I know the Caswell site and he is a business man firstly. The price of his parts can be pricey for the average new builder and put off a lot of new builders in this field.

Any chance you could give me the link in Shapeways for the nose and tail cone? Also the motor you used?

You can always buy the 1/35 biber,seehund, or even type 23 kits and use the torpedoes in them.

My shop has 2 3D printers in operation. I can print torpedo housings out for you so you can make them yourself. I need to put a few together for my 1/32nd PIKE. I can make a few extra if you like.

Can I ask a couple of torpedo questions here? If you don`t mind. I have looked on line and I can`t tell from the pictures. 1. How many blades does each propeller have? 2. Which propeller turns in what direction, the nearer to the tail cone to start with?

I remember the early days of this hobby when we helped each other out for the simple joy of helping each other out. A fight over a lousy 1/32nd scale torpedo is absolutely idiotic! Think about it; just how many 1/32nd scale boats are really out there to provide a workable market for something like this? Answer: damn few.

It bothers me terribly that everything in this hobby has become commercialized. Yes, I am a vendor, too. However, I stay in the business for the fun of it, not with the goal of getting wealthy. There is not enough of us out there to really provide a solid, viable market for a serious business. So, I would like to get back to where we were 20+ years ago and help modelers out for the simple act of helping out a fellow modeler.

I would like to clarify my remarks about the commercialization of our hobby.

First, my hat is off to Bob for his inventiveness and originality. Second, I completely understand and support Bob in his comments about need to charge for the parts if he were to supply them. Like Bob, I have a couple of 3D printers. The printers are very expensive and the plastic feed stock is not cheap either. He has every right to ask for compensation for his time, creativity, use of his machine and consumables. My issue is not with what Bob is doing here at all.

My comments are more general in nature in that everything in our hobby now seems to be directed towards turning a dime. It bothers me that this is occurring at the very time that our hobby, like most others, is struggling.
