Well I did it! If you saw in the other thread we had talked about if a twin stick conversion was possible on the Multiplex Cockpit MM radio. Always up for a challenge, plus the more I thought about it I liked the idea. I took the stick assembly out this morning and stared at it for an hour. I was just about to give up and I figured it out. It turned out to be fairly easy to do, and it works! I still have to finish making the stick assemblies and the knobs on the lathe. But the pots are in and working. Woo Hoo! It is going to look cool. Also I really like the idea of having the twin stick, as the left stick right- left control is kind of redundant in a boat or sub. I will put up photos and more info when I complete the sticks. Dave.

Dave,
Good job!!
I am really looking forward to hearing and seeing all about it. With a duel stick, it would be my first choice for the Typhoon!
Please get detailed on the "how I did it". Even though it is two projects away, I have been thinking of how to put it all together. Now, if I can use the same transmitter on the Akula project up and coming, I am there. It will be my next purchase.
I look forward to your post, and e-mail hopefully.

I read about the Multiplex in an earlier Report. It would make a great follow up article.

Dave,
I just looked at the photo you uploaded of the converted transmitter......
Very, very nicely done! If I didn't know that it was a one-off conversion, I would have sworn that it came from Multiplex that way!
Hopefully Hitec will offer this transmitter in surface frequencies so as to not require the customer to go through the modifcation/re-tune route.

Question.
Do I HAVE to use a multiplex reciever with the Cockpit model,or can I use another reciever? I seem to remember some discussion about computor transmitters on regular recievers, etc.
Also, where is the place to get one? I know it needs to be reset to 75mhz. Anybody have recommendations on where and which reciever would work?

Hi Wayne,
As long as the receiver is the same frequency (and FM vs. AM) it will work fine.
I use the same FM receiver for both computer and non-computer radios.
I'll leave it to Dave to suggest where to get the Cockpit MM.

Hi Wayne, You can get
Hi Wayne, You can get Multiplex products anywere hitec products are sold. Go to the Hitec-Multiplex website and you should be able to get a list of vendors. I ordered my radios right from Multiplex on the website. I talked to the Hitec reps at the Toledo show. They said they can't sell the radio outright on 75MHZ as it is not FCC approved. But the radio can be purchased on 72MHZ and sent back to there repair shop to be converted. They had no problem with this as long as there repair tech was ok with it. His contact information can be gotten from Multiplex USA. I hope this helps. Also I have submitted an article on my twin stick conversion to Jeff. The radio can still be ordered radio only, and will work with any FM positive shift receiver on the same freq. Good Luck, Dave.
