    Flood Valve

I have had a few requests for info on how I made my flood valve for my sinking tanker.
So I am posting some basic info on how it is made.
The sizes can vary depending how fast you want the hull to flood so I am showing no exact sizes.
The body or frame of the assembly are made from K&S brass strips and bent in a U shape.
The bottom part being the largest which also has the opening in the bottom for the water inlet.
The top frame is also U shape but has shorter sides. This is attached to the bottom frame by a screw on each side.
The the valve body was turned on a lathe to match the size of the O-ring used.
The shaft the body is mounted to is K&S brass rod soldered on.
The guide tube was soldered to the upper frame. This just gives the shaft support and keeps it centered above the intake hole.
The spring keeps the O-ring pressed between the valve body and intake hole.
The valve is activated by the arm which acts like a lever when pulled back thus pushing up on the collar attached to the shaft.
This lifts the O-ring and lets the water in. Very simple!
There will be a test in the morning! So do your homework!! BD.

Really sweet design. Thank you for sharing!
    Peace,

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

        BD,

....so once you sink it, how do you bring it back to the surface? Throw Don in after it?

That only works the first time.
He is smart enough not to fall for that trick again.

I have a small RCABS system in the hull which is just enough to bring the boat back up.
You can actually run the boat at decks-a-wash so I drive it over to the side of the pool and then empty out the water manualy.
I did not want to over complicate the system by adding a second pump to empty the hull.
As Skip always says. K.I.S.S! BD.

Dave, have you posted pics of this tanker somewhere?

There is a post in my Dockyard section called the Sinker that has info on the Tanker. Dave.
