Scratchbuilding a static or dynamic sub; advice needed!

Could anyone help me? I'd like to convert a plastic sub kit (e.g. the Revell 212a) to either static or dynamic diving without spending a king's ransom. Basically I'm skint but would love to have a go at converting a static model (not a Gato or WWII U-Boat, however) as simply as possible. I've never built a sub before but I'm sure with help (and some photos and diagrams) I could construct a working model. Thanks in advance!

    Cheers

My first boat was a Trumpeter Kilo.
