does anyone have a good approach for sealing in MDF? before i carve a pattern in a brick of MDF i want to be sure my approach is correct for sealing and getting a perfect surface on the MDF. any suggestions?
I use automotive primer. It may take a few coats, but it finishes up well.
I also know that mdf takes latex paint extremely well. If you can get a smooth coat on, or get it sanded down smooth, this would be a cleaner and less smelly method.
I used PVA on MDF as Andy suggested, but my version of Polyester
catalyst did react with the moisture in the PVA. This was confirmed by the
shop selling the stuff : *no moisture*.
So, be sure to test OR be sure to dry the PVA thoroughly before
using PVA and Polyester.
