Took an old dead printer apart tonight and these are the parts I salvaged from it.

Depending on the printer...I recently took apart a large A3 one....there is generally alot more light gates, a couple of stepper motors and a power supply (must be careful as it's not designed to operate out of context).

Which type of printer was it?

It was a cheap HP that I bought while I was in the desert. It was 30 bucks at the PX IIRC. Served well for a year or so, until we wore it out.

A thrift store might get you a printer for a few bucks. Look for other
goodies like blood pressure cuffs & machines, etc...
        Thrifting another hobby in its-self.
