How to you pickle photo etched parts?

A few of my kits have the photo etched parts. Bob Martin mentioned sanding the side that goes down and pickling before gluing.... What do you use to do this?

White vinegar, grocery store stuff, is great for cleaning brass parts. Cheap, safe, no disposal problems.

Merriman recommends ferric chloride, but vinegar certainly works!
