All,
I'm in San Francisco on business, and stopped off to see the USS Pampanito again yesterday. Just can't stay away from those old diesel boats!
Some of you may be interested in knowing that she finally got her 5"/25 deck gun last week! The Pampanito had a 5"/25 at the end of the war, but all they could find to mount on her deck when they made a museum of her was an older 4"/50 gun. Incidently, the old 4"/50 gun is on its way to be installed on another boat (sorry, didn't get the name of it).
The 5"/25 is incomplete]Pampanito[/i]'s supposed to go into drydock in December to get a bottom job. However, that may be delayed due to lack of funds.
I hope they are successful in raising the money, as she's pretty badly fouled below the waterline now...
Carl
