maybe you all know already, but there is now a bit of software
available called Skype (www.skype.com) which would enable us
all to call each other when active on the Internet, using the internet
instead of the telco's for a voice call.
It's free (the software and the calling), and available for your
favorite OS.
It also offers conference calls and text-chat (also free).
Imagine! vendors could organise HOWTO sessions.
we could provide "Newbie sessions" to give some support
to first-timers. etc..
we could actually have "remote" meetings if we care to.
you pay a reasonable fee to skype if you want to call up an
oldfashioned normal telephone extention instead of another
skype account.
reasonable meaning cheap if you live very far apart, because
distance plays no role in skype tariffs (see website).
all this was possible before, but it now becomes usable for the
casual internetter (you are not spending more time on the Internet than
building subs, are you ?)
