WAIT!!! Can I go 72 MHZ to 27 MHZ with JR crystals - Another question. WILL IT WORK!?!?

I just got an Idea! Change out the 72 MHZ crystals in my Aircraft radio with 27 MHZ crystals and get them to work in a sub???? Why wouldn't that work!? What do you all think. Thank you so very much for all of your help everyone!

I'm no expert, but if I remember correctly, this will work in theory, but your range will be far less than if the radio was tuned to the proper frequency professionally.

Anyone else know for sure?

You can't go from 72Mhz to 27 or 75Mhz by simply changing the crystal. At minimum you will need to have the radio retuned to work properly. You will need to change both the transmitter and receiver. It might be simpler to find something on e-bay. Also you might want to look at this site http://www.subconcepts.com/subguide.html it has some good information on sub stuff. Brady.......The correct answer is you can't go from 72 Mhz to 27 Mhz. The biggest reason is the coils and capacitors are too far apart to tune the radio properly. I hope this helps.

He seems like a nice fellow but I am wondering why he won't join the SubCommittee - I asked him but he never replied. You'd think a business who wants to make money from this hobby would try to support its main hobby club. It only costs $26 a year. Maybe he recently joined and isn't in the directory?

I encourage members to try to buy from vendors that are SubCommittee members and urge the vendors to encourage their customers to join the SubCommittee.

Some folk don't wish to be a member of any organisation or club, often because they don't like the politics that are so often part and parcel of grouping people together.

I'm sure there are many other reasons, but I'm sure the individual concerned is only to well aware of the existence of the Sub Committee, and he shouldn't be pressured into joining if he doesn't want to.

On the subject of buying from vendors from Sub Committee members.

Why?

I buy from individuals who produce or supply the BEST products, whether they choose to be members of the Sub Com or not is of little concern to me...unless they offer a decent discount to fellow members!

Infact one chap who I regularly purchase goods off isn't a member of any Submarine organisation, yet he produces some of the best and most advanced electronics for our models.

No angry flames here - I just see things a little differently ... or so says my wife!

His IS a very nice and informative site - and he seems like a nice chap and it is his right to join or not join any organization as an individual or business.

On the other hand, it's also my right to not give him my business when people like Skip, Al, Matt, Rick and other SubCommittee member vendors have stepped up time and time again to help keep this organization afloat (or at least in level trim) by donating products, buying ads on the website and in the magazine and developing new products.

Without the organization there's no nice magazine four times per year, no SubRegatta, no website (soon to be new and improved).

I urge SubCommittee members to support the vendors that contribute to make the organization stronger and more viable.
Look at the vendors that buy ads and / or have donated to the SubRegatta (list in the SCR each September or December) and buy from them.
