What Plastruct sheet to replace Lindberg IJN decking?

Does anyone have any idea about what Plastruct product I might use to replace the crap decking on the Lindberg IJN !-52 sub kit?

We all know how bad this kit is. Weld lines don't match --- even though IJN subs were lap riveted. 9-foot diameter personnel hatches. Just to start.

I'm changing the bow. And I have appropriate sized hatches from Nautilus models (I think.) The model is so BIG that I think I will leave the weld lines alone. No one can see one side of the boat from the other anyway.

But I think I should replace the decking. The planks seem to be three to five times too wide at a guess. I could be wrong though.

Do any of you have suggestions?

How about laying a ruler/straight edge on the deck and scribe as many lines dividing the existing planks
as needed. Make them parallel to the existing scribes to make the planks look more scale?

The deck is almost five feet long. That would be a hell of a lot of scribed lines to get just right. Replacing the deck would probably be easier.

A friend says 2 to four inch planks with 3/4 inch space between should be right for this boat. Now to get that figured out in 72nd scale . . .

        real 2" = .027783" at 1/72 scale
        real 3/4" = .01042" at 1/72 scale

        Scaling Made Easy spread sheet.
You can use the test boat boxes near top of sheet to put in inches to get any scale you want. Go to far right to test boat (column K) to get more accurate numbers.

          I got 0.07cm for 2", 0.14cm for 4" and 0.01cm.

Then I searched the forum and found Plastruct PS33 is the usual planking for the Gato. Might do for the IJN.

OK. 2" planks with 0.75" gap at 72 scale gives 12.5 planks per cm. 4" planks and 0.75" gap gives 6.6 planks per cm.

Plastruct PS33 (91530, upc 764050915300) has 1.0 mm planking (that's 0.1cm which is near enough to 0.08cm for me) and 10 planks per cm. Good enough.
