Silent Service TV Series- The Holy Grail...

The Silent Service TV Series
Many of us (well, at least those over say, 55) remember The Silent Service TV Series from the 1950's (1956-58). Rear Admiral Thomas Dykers, wartime skipper of USS Jack, was behind the series, and introduces the episodes.
Thanks to the heroic efforts of Ray "Olgoat" Stone, retired Chief Torpedoman and submariner extraordinaire and his AFTER BATTERY web site, the episodes are available to either view or download for later viewing (MP4 files).

Go here]http://www.olgoat.com/silentserv/dnld.html

The shows are divided into two series, and you can download and save episodes.

These are the TV Shows that inspired such SubCommittee luminaries as Bill Lambing to join and serve in the submarine service! (OKay, I made that up...)

I can remember the opening sequence like it was yesterday. A film of the Pickerel making a steep emergency surface off of Hawaii. Only later did I learn that this was a postwar Guppy conversion, and WWII fleet boats never came out that steep or that fast. But that brief, really cool film clip lived on in my memory for 50+ years! Now I have it back....

BTW, several actors who would become better known in later years appear in the series...
For example]
Dammit, Jim, I'm a sub commander, not a doctor!

And long before he got lost on Gilligan's Isle, Russell Johnson, The Professor, played Ned Beach

Great find! I loved the re-runs of these when I was a kid. Add Victory at Sea, Rat Patrol, McHale's Navy, and several other shows and your getting my childhood TV schedule.
Thank you!
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Jerry Paris (Rob Petrie's dentist neighbor, Jerry Helper, from "The Dick Van Dyke Show") as Dick O'Kane!

And from the episode on the emergency appendectomy at sea (Operation Seadragon), portraying Pharmacist's Mate (& ad hoc surgeon) Wheeler Lipes, is
Richard Deacon

Later to portray Mel Cooley on the aforementioned "The Dick Van Dyke Show"

Also, in the episode featuring USS Barb, one of the sailors in the crew's mess (around 15]Barb episode, Admiral Dykers has the real Gene Fluckey on for a brief closing interview.

And...

I'll have to download a few. I bought them a while ago on 4 VHS tapes. Hope the quality is a bit better (but hey, it's still better than nothing).
