Success!
Replaced the leaking seal with a typical O-ring. Made another seal with a regular O-ring and attached it backwards inside the WTC to prevent the play and wiggling of the pushrod, and packed the whole thing with plumber's grease inside like a stuffing box, and outside.
No water.
I'll make a more proper repair after the subregatta.
