Re: The coolest image from Cottage Regatta 2012
Affirmative, that's my OSCAR caught here in the midst of releasing missile three of a four-shot ripple. In total seven shots were fired at the "Thousand Islands Missile Test Range" this weekend and I'm pleased to report that all shots were straight and predictable.
I've still got some tweaking and "prettying-up" to do on the missile system, but it's basic soundness is well established.
Ben - thanks again for hosting us all for the weekend and for the awesome photography.Kevin McLeod - OSCAR II driver

Kevin,
That is such a cool shot! Well done...what other things are you working on? Hmmm?!If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Can you provide some info about your missiles? Looks like they're rocket propelled.

Re: The coolest image from Cottage Regatta 2012
I guess it's about time I got back in here and answered some questions - I've been travelling for work with limited time and access to email.
The system uses Quest micro-maxx rocket motors to launch the cruise missiles, a sealed electric ignition to start them, and is sequenced/interlocked by way of a custom made fire-control computer of my own design. One of the biggest challenges in this system was the stability of the rockets and ensuring that their flight would be consistent and predictable. I think I'm where I need to be as evidenced by the one splash-down caught in Jim's video - at the top of the frame and straight off the bow. Range is affected significantly by depth at launch, but that's no surprise. Can you provide some info about your missiles? Looks like they're rocket propelled.
First on the list is to finish the torpedo system to fill-up the bow section, but I'd also like to overhaul the ballast system and switch to a hybrid piston/snort ballast arrangement.Kevin,

You and me both Mike! Although it was nearly there I missed having it all ready for this year's Regatta by a week. (A helluva week it was to finish it off though!) We missed you at the Regatta this year, by the way.Well done Kevin.I have been waiting for that launch since last years regatta!
