    Who actually makes sub kits?

I see a vendors page but not much if any info on kits for sale. Who actually makes kits these days? I see several boats on the drawing boards but some haven't had updates in almost 2 years. I'm looking for something to do this winter.

      Casey,

We will have the following kits back in Production later this fall:

      1) 1/96th Permit
      2) 1/48th Type XXI

We will be releasing the new Marlin kit late this winter.

The SSN 571 Kit will be released late next summer. The patterns are done, the preliminary molds are complete and ready for the PE deck work.

We have several other boats in the works, but I have no schedule for any of them at this time.

      Matt
      Regards,

      Matt

          Jim,

List away! I was shocked by the number of guys at the Regatta who expressed a desire for a 1/32nd Gato. That boat is a beast!

I already got a Permit from you and enjoyed it. The Type XXI looks a little daunting with twin screws. Never fooled with two motors on a sub before. Now the Marlin sounds like a plan.

I hear you, Casey. The XXI is a complex kit and is a very involved build. The Marlin is a beautiful boat. She is now highly detailed with an all new conning tower and a full PE deck. She is, also, a pretty simple build. Skip's boat is one of the most maneuverable boats I have ever seen.

I cant wait to get my hands on the updated tower and PE deck for my older Marlin. Casey the XXI is a great sub with a ton of detail. Either would be a great winter project or both ....

I believe there are also kit builders listed on the vendor's page on SubCommittee.com.

Re: Who actually makes sub kits?

Lots of companies producing kits and hulls-

                        Germany- Engel and Norbert Bruggen
UK- OTW, Sheerline, MBD, Sarik Vacform.
USA- Caswell, Precision Pattern, Mike's Subworks, Scale Shipyard
                        Russia- Scale Ships

That's a few I can think of. Of course you have things like the Thundertiger Neptune, not a kit as such, at least not in the USA (available as a kit here in the England). I believe that Robbe are no longer manufacturing their line of submarine kits, or at least have greatly reduced the range on offer.

Don't forget our good friend Don3 at Loyalhanna Dockyard.
He is coming out with some nice kits as well.
Hopefully there will always be companies out there willing to cater to us bubbleheads. BD.

Do the make kits, Dave? Thought they were a distributer.
