Type 212 question

Question about the German Type 212. I just picked up the 1/350 HobbyBoss Type 212. Looks like a great kit. Anyway, anyone know of the reasoning for the brace on the X-tail? I've seen it on the Aussie Collins and the Israeli Dolphins. I would think this have a lot of flow noise.........

I read somewhere else the brace is called a torpedo guidance-wire guard. Not a popular device and rumored many seem to disappear from the tail. That is hearsay, but maybe someone else has more information.
