Re: 1/35 Scale Type XXIII U-Boat
It should measure about 3.3" across the beam at that scale. Allowing a bit of clearance for the plastic thickness, that means a maximum of a 3" WTC. However that is likely to project above the waterline when surfaced, so if you wish to keep everything below the waterline, then probably 2.5" is about right.
The other alternative is to install a shelf in the middle of the figure-of-eight hull, and make it a dry hull with bayonet seal. Just like the original!

Re: 1/35 Scale Type XXIII U-Boat
I gotta get one of these.
Figure it will be about the same size as the 32nd Parallel kit, but in styrene the detail will be awesome.

Thanks Sam! Yes, life is good & I even have my eldest son is here now in Hangzhou managing a new restaurant & bar. If anyone's passing through the area, let me know & I'll be happy to get you the best table in the house!
Hope too once its released to replace that poor attempt I did with someone who shall not be mentioned a few years back with that small Special Navy kit.

Re: 1/35 Scale Type XXIII U-Boat
I didn't notice this thread until after I started the one in the Static Model section.. Oh, well..
This video is pretty cool. Oto Gerza's 1:35 vacformed XXIII with photo-etch detail parts. I like how the captain, and his first watch officer, magically appear and disappear on the bridge. Functional torpedoes, retractable scope and schnorkel.. Pretty slick! You'd never know it was a vac-form boat from looking at the finished model. It is like a 32nd P. with better scale detail. He has underwater camera shots, sound effects. This guy should come to the Sub Regatta! It is making me want to break out my 32nd P. and release it from its cardboard coffin (plastered with "Please handle with care FRAGILE" stickers)..

Re: 1/35 Scale Type XXIII U-Boat
Yeah, you and me both..Damnit. I have to get to work on my Type XXIII.
Edit time..
Man, it has been a while since I've been on here.. I found the Rogue Subs posts regarding the Gerza kits.. I now remember his announcement about the XXIII and XXI from almost 2 years ago, I had forgotten about that. With all the fees, shipment hassle from Europe, and the 100% vacform parts on carrier sheets, it looks like that is not a good choice for us USA guys. I'll just stick with my old school, American made 32nd P. and keep the Chinese BRONCO kit in mind as a future alternative if and when it ever gets released. It's probably not going to be as sturdy and strong as the 32nd P. hull and it won't have those cool gas powered torpedo launchers, nor come with a resin replica U-Boat badge, or a grenade proof Pittman motor..
