    Moebius Skipjack - Photo-etch Vents & Strainers

With the recent release of the Moebius USS Skipjack kit in 1/72nd scale, I thought that there might be some interest in a photo-etch set of vents and strainers that I developed a while back.

These are based on the actual Electric Boat drawings for these parts. Each drawing was re-created in full detail using AutoCAD and then a few details were simplified (e.g. the several hundred small holes in the strainers) since the scale reduction to 1/72nd essentially made them merge. The parts are photo-etched using a 0.010" stainless steel.

Applying these details will greatly enhance the detail of this kit!

The price for a set of these detail parts is $25, which includes postage within the U.S. Please contact me for postage cost outside the U.S.

I can be reached via e-mail at jeffrey.larue@hp.com or the PM function on this forum.

    -many thanks,

    Jeff

      Hi Sam,

Probably not. I have one of the SSY 1/72nd scale Skipjack kits and it's still a very nice working r/c sub.

As far as I know, Lee is still producing them. It is a very nice hull kit!

            Jeff,
These are beautifully done! I will definitely have to order a set after I see what the kit offers. For the simpleton that I am, the placement of the vents is a no brainer?
            Peace,
            Tom
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

re: placement - I include an instruction sheet that provides the name of each part, but it assumes that you have a copy of the Greg Sharpe Skipjack drawings. Since Greg appears to no longer be in business, I will work up something to show placement of the various PE pieces.

Did you do these in 1/96th scale too, Jeff?

How about the squarish flood vents on the bottom of the hull?

I have EB drawings for those, but have never arrived at a way to represent the 3-dimensional look that the grates really call for.
