    Hey Mr LaRue????????

    Jeff old buddy!!
    Question for you Sir!!
I want to turn a type VIIc tower into a late war type with the longer wintergarden I believe it is called.
Can you in fact without using a bigger hammer do this?
Or should I start from scratch?
    Curious minds want to know!!
    BTW-What is your quest?? BD.

    Hi BD,

.....depends on what version of an early-war Turm you are starting with.

Send me a photo and/or give me a call and we'll figure out how to do it.

    -Jeff

p.s. You forgot to ask me what my favorite color is?

          Re: Hey Mr LaRue????????

          BD,

A quick look at the photos tells me that you could relatively easily convert that tower into the Turm II (bridge conversion 2) configuration by adding the lower gun platform (which is what is correctly called the Wintergarten) and modifying the upper, circular platform into the lozenge-shaped gun platform. Of course you get to add a number of guns to both.

Here's a view of the configuration:

I would also suggest adding the additional, post construction wind deflector to the upper, front of the tower as this was very common with the Turm II configuration.

          Any questions.....just holler!

            Casey,
If you see this I have tried to email you back twice but my emails keep bouncing back. BD.
            Here is my email.

            Hi Casey,
The kit was made by a company called Schaffer in the early 1980's.
The company is no longer in business. I found one at the Subregatta last year after having wanted one for about 30 years.
Mine was missing a few parts and had the wrong sail but nothing I can't fix. I am actually not sure if the slots came cut out or not.
Mine are but could have been done by a previous owner.
There is actually one for sale on SubPirates now.
The hull detail is great. It is like a smaller OTW kit. BD.
BTW-This is a photo from the kit brochure.

              Hey Jeff,
I have been studing my Vom Zum book and it looks to me like they started with the earlier tower on the real boats two and added the extra deck and such.
If I build a wintergarten, change the shape of the upper deck, and add the radar inclosure I am 90% there.
I would just buy one of the towers from Dream Arts if I could but they are not in stock, and are not sure when they will be.
You don't happen to have one lying around do you????? BD.

                Re: Hey Mr LaRue????????

                BD,

Absolutely correct. Quite a number of boats were upgraded to the Turm II configuration, which provided for a bit of variation as seen in the photos available. The photos I have seen that depict the full-sized mock-ups that the Germans did prior to actually rolling out the changes shows the earlier tower configuration being used as the starting point with the Wintergarten being 'tacked on'......which is what I sort of meant to imply in my earlier post.

I moved the post to my Dockyard section for a build. Or rebuild I guess. BD.

                      Not a problem.
You can thank Paul too as he would not let me pay for it saying it took so long to order.
BTW-Did you check the back? I assume your name is right. BD.
