212 scopes question?

I am woundering why the red would be painted on some of the scopes for this sub?
Any of you guys know for sure. Thanks, BD.

These pictures were taken during Builder's Trials. Just another measure to make sure the big freighters wouldn't run over her. The orange came off after trials were done.

I thought it was something like that but was not sure.
Might not be a bad option to have on a model either with some of the crazy target-drivers out there.
