Where I've been lately-1701 TOS Enterprise

Between customer builds of hi end subs ( thanks Bob Dimmack, Bob Martin and the rest of you bums), plastic display models I have been working on a 66 inch 5.5 foot model of the original series Star Trek Enterprise. All scratch built masters by hand. No CNC.

I have nearly finished the masters and will be making the RTV molds next. The final model(s) will be made from epoxy glass just like our subs and fully light with rotating nacelle lights.

To see the build you can go two places. My web site. Here's a direct link to the page for the build: http://sneillfx.com/page42

    and my daily Blog]http://steveneill.wordpress.com/[/url]

After all. Subs are the fore runners to star ships. Sealed. Controlled environment. Large crew. Bridge. Functions in 3 dimensional space.

    Steve,

If there is one thing that can be said repeatedly, is that your work is simply outstanding. The quality of the finished product parallel's that of kits produced by some of the major model companys, and it's always an enjoyable experience to simply follow along with the various projects you've worked on from time to time.

Maybe one day someone perusing your web-site and your work will come along and offer you a good paying job, if for nothing more than to provide your services as an advisor.

Thanks once more for sharing, always a pleasure. Nothing like a large scale Enterprise!, except a large scale sub. : ) Regards, Al

Just caught up on the entire build process in your blog. This is an amazing build. Probably the most recognizable fictitious spaceship/starship in the world.

I'm thinking that I will want one of these......

Re: Where I've been lately-1701 TOS Enterprise

A little update. I've been pretty busy building all kinds of models for customers the last 7 month but got free enough to finally finish the masters and make the molds. In fact I have started my build and sold 3 kits already. But in a couple of weeks she will be done complete with turning blinking Bussard collectors and more. I have a 41 part build video on my blog: www.steveneill.wordpress.com where are show you blow by blow how I made the molds, casting and the build of the actual model. You got to love these new HD hand held cameras.

I plan to do this for the 66 inch Disney Nautilus build I plan after I finish her. I think this will be a first for the sub world and maybe something saved for the SCR. You guys tell me.

Here's a picture for size. And another a little further along. I still have at least two more weeks to go.

                Steve

Did you hear that THUD? That was my jaw dropping. Fantastic work and you did a great tribute to a memorable ship!

If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Thanks guys she's not a sub I know but everything I did was just like making a big sub. Besides Star Ships are subs in space.
