Anyone know what was the function of this modifacation given to Seawolf back in 1963? Doing some research on it turned up zero as far as submarines are concerned but researching the other terms , like ELF turns up a magnetic field produced at Extra Low Frequency to produce a localized field and the Hall effect sensor would detect any variations in that field. Perhaps a ship or submarine passing would be detected in this manner. Since I have not noticed any other submarines modified in this manner perhaps it didnt work or was not strong enough. Could the odd looking antenna array sticking out of the hull just in front of the sail on Akulas be something of a similar vane? Perhaps "Columbo" could get to the bottom of it. Any takers?
That little guy is Dwight D. Eisenhower coming abourd for an inspection.
I recollect their was something similar on the Hunley, so that's probably a bomb on the end for ramming the Confederate ships and breaking the blockade. Case solved.
