Poll for electronic SCR - PDF

Here's the deal guys. Myles has asked me to post this poll so we can see how many would prefer a PDF file release for the SCR in the future.

How many of you are familiar with PDF?

And how many of you would prefer to keep it a real printed magazine.

    Thanks for your input.

Yes I think the SCR should be released as an electronic format PDF file.

No I'd like to see it remain a magazine in print form as it has always been.

Re: Poll for electronic SCR - PSD

Here's my problem with PDF. I have to load it to my computer and read it from the screen. I have three desk tops and no lap top too. Not preferred.

If I want to be able to read it without the PC I have to print it out. That's a lot of ink and paper. And ink isn't cheap. And then you end up with a stack of paper instead of a nice neat collectible magazine.

I like the nice collection on my book self I can refer to and read anytime. Even in a power failure.

A collection of CD's looks like, well a collection CD with an indeterminate shelf life. Ever pull out and try to load a 10 year old CD lately? I have a some fail to load. Then what? The printed magazine always works.

I think that the results of this poll will be interesting and very useful to the organization....however, I think that another poll may be needed to ask about preferences around an electronic version of the SCR that is more dynamic than a simple, static PDF.

Yes like a DVD complete with video every quarter. Members could send in there videos from their runs and we could cut them together for a nice report. That I admit can not be done with a magazine.

John I have been on that side ever since the first Apple kit PC in the early 70s. Remember I'm a CGI artist. Film maker. And I edit, do effects and all the rest on the many high end machines I have hear. I make my own web sites:

          www.sneillfx.com
          www.foofightersmovie.com

I play video combat Sims and SH5. I know it inside and out. Been there, done it.

But when it comes to reading I prefer a book in my hand.

Not many votes which proves another point to me anyway. Out of the hundreds of members only a small fraction actually visit this website. That's a big number. And if they aren't on the web site they surely won't like the PDF format. 23 votes hardly counts.

Well if they don't vote then they really don't care, and I will just make the decission based on the votes that were submitted, and don't worry there watching what is going on they are just not saying anything.

John no one here is immersed in technology of the future than I am. Well there might be some. I just know there are plenty young and old alike that aren't. The pay little regard to the net or it activities. And Myles. That's a lot of members to lose if they don't vote. More to the point money lost to SC.

I'm on face book. Twitter. Several model web sites and have my 2 web sites and now a blog: www.steveneill.wordpress.com but I run into people all the time that can't navigate or figure out the most simple of web functions.

I'm just through my thoughts out their for better or worse. And I know the problems involved getting the report out electronic or print. This is all a hard call.

It's just kind of scary that only 23 members have voted in all this time.

I wonder how many people know to use the "View New Posts" app? If they click on it every time they visit the site they will keep up to date but sadly many are unaware it it.

                      Can we make that bigger?

John I have found that so many people simply aren't educated enough to know how to use their browser to it's fullest extent. Let alone a websites matrix. People miss responses to their own posts because they don't know how to set up their CP for instant email notifications. The list huge. I have a family member that surfaces the web alone with google. Doesn't know how to use the copy and paste. Never uses the Navigation window. And nearly always forgets that a highlighted blue link can just be clicked on. I run into all kinds of friends and people that do this. More often than not.

Often I'll send people I know a link to my Foo Fighters Movie website. Despite the link they go to google and type in Foo Fighters and get the band. Only to tell me days later they couldn't get the site only got the band. Bottom line is people aren't that good at the net over all in my experience and I have a lot of it. You got to blow by blow spell it out to them. It will be years yet before they are up to speed. This is a problem.

I'm not disagreeing with you John. I'm a very young 58 and have been at PCs since the very first Apple kit all way to present. I find it most troublesome that people can't figure this stuff out or more importantly they don't care to.

However there is that concern of losing membership when people get their tail feathers ruffled over us pointing all this out to them. I just wonder about that.

Look how many people have trouble attaching a simple picture to their post. Uploading video. Uploading an avatar or Sig. We run into it all the time. Yet they can build a master piece of engineering only using their bare hands, a piece of paper, and a pencil. Producing as good of a product as any CNC machine. Something to think about.
