Has the December 2009 issue of the SCR been sent out yet? I'm still waiting for mine.

    TIA

lack of editors will not do any good to the next ones as well,
      regardless of priority mail arrangements.

      hint hint..

Yup. The organization has a one issue reprieve with my stepping up to assist with the March issue.....

Would any of the former editors e.g. Pete, Jeff etc. be willing to edit one issue a year?

While I think this may be a workable solution given the right circumstances, I am not in a position to volunteer to do this. I also believe that it's time for some new folks to step forward and help to share the workload.

Fair enough. I've been a member of the Sub Committee for about ten years now, and during that time, this has been a persistent problem. If three other editors can be found, I would be willing to assist by doing one issue per year, but that is as much as I can offer.

I do notice how eerily quiet things go when positions like this need to be filled.

While the editor position becomes acute every few years, another perennial problem (which exacerbates aggravation of the role of editor) is material to fill the pages of the magazine itself. Despite several explanations by officers and the SCR editors, many members do not understand that it is "their" magazine; "their" organization. I would recommend people go back and read Pete Piekarski's message on Aug. 12 of this year about the SCR. It pretty much says it all. We have some people who complain about the content, but don't contribute. This is not Fine Scale Modeller where you pay your subscription and then you just sit back and the magazine shows up. It's a club journal ( a very, very good looking club journal) that relies on members' contributions for contents, similar to IPMS.

As I've said in the past, if you get 10% of your membership making a contribution, you're doing well. I'm the UK contact for the Sub Committee, and as such it's my responsibility to see that there is some sort of feedback to the Fox Schedule.

Although we have about thirty UK based members, I only hear from a couple of other members. Most of the membership I know nothing of, despite repeated attempts to encourage them to come along to shows and events and participate. A couple of members I contacted never even read the articles in the Fox Schedule, which does sometimes make me think I'm banging my head against a brick wall.

Having served in the position as an emergency stopgap a few years ago - that's when we hired a professional graphic artist to do the layout work - I can only agree with what Jeff and others have said.

The position really needs a single person to take the helm. You need to establish a relationship with the graphic artist and the printer. It would be tough for a rotating group to do this without a managing editor to ride herd on everything. Maybe that's an option?

Which reminds me - I just got my December issue and it's great. Nice photos and interesting articles including a fantastic article by Matt Thor - the guru of fiberglass - on how to build fiberglass molds with lots of photos. Matt helped me through email on how to build my 1/12th scale H.L. Hunley. This is one of those articles you want to save in a binder for the next time you scratch build a model!

                          I received my issue today.

Will the other articles I and Dave Jacques submitted make it into the next issue?

Good question. I haven't seen anything come my way from Pete yet.......but we sure can use the material!
